Tagum City finalist in 2010 Nat'l Literacy Awards


THE National Offices of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Department of Education (DepEd) and Non-Government Organization (NGO) Education Network, Philippine were in City of Tagum for an ocular visit and on-site validation for the city's entry to the 2010 National Literacy Awards being one of the five finalist entire Philippines in the Year's Outstanding Implementation of Literacy Programs for Local Government Unit, in Component City Category.
The four other finalists are Balanga City in Bataan, Malaybalay City in Bukidnon, Cadiz City in Negros and Sorsogon City in Sorsogon.
For the record, Tagum City won already twice in this search as Champion in the year 2005 and 2008 and if the city again wins this year for the third time, the city could place in the "Hall of Fame."
The 2010 Literacy Flagship Program of the City was presented in Power point Presentation by one of the Members of the Tagum Literacy Working Group, the City Planning Development Officer Reynaldo G. Cadeliña and the flagship were categorized into; (1) Literacy and Sustainable Agriculture and Environmental Management focusing on Agri and Eco-Friendly program the Organic Farming, (2) Literacy and Education thru Scouting Program, (3) Literacy and Expanded Health Services thru Balik-Sigla Program, (4) Literacy and Economic Development thru Night Market and Financial Literacy, and (5) Literacy and Cultural Development thru showcasing the Kaimonan Festival.
"Tagum City Officials have been working on intensifying the city's literacy programs and that great compliment and awards provide make better for them to work hard and more," said by City Literacy Coordinating Council (CLCC) Chairman City Councilor Nicandro Suaybaguio, Jr., in his welcome address.
The National Literacy Awards is given annually "to recognize and honor to the Local Government Units for advocating literacy as part of their good governance."
